Lesbians? In MY mecha anime?!

So the title being Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is enough to lure me in, I haven't watched a lot of mecha anime so I'm been meaning to try it. Little did I know!!
And in one episode we went at light speed from: There are way too many cute girls with silly hair for this anime to be totally straight, right? Hang on, Suletta was totally looking at Mioirine's butt right now, right?? to: THEY'RE ENGAGED?! Then the opening does an Utena and has the two protagonists floating facing each other upside down with their eyes closed?!
I just hope that we're at a stage with media where they can be explicit about it, although 'we are engaged for political reasons, you are my groom' is really skirting the edge of what you can call subtext.
Oh, and the protag's name changing from Ericht to Suletta gets an immediate trans headcanon from me. Sorry, she's mine now.
Mioirine is scot free on her way to earth and comes back to the station not just to defend her right to marry her new fiancee, but also to stick up for her right to decide her own future and stick it to her fascist capitalist dad.
Then we get that beautiful shot of her going to see Suletta in her cell, where they fly towards each other in zero G, get tangled up and spin around together, ending up with Suletta in between Mioirine and the wall in a very not platonic way.
If I am being queerbaited I will be very sad but at least I'll have these memories XD. Although the vibe, if they don't end up together explicitly or implicitly, seems to be more in the Little Witch Academia direction of 'the writers really wanted this to be gay but couldn't swing it for network reasons, so I'll have to be content with the messaging and a shot of them homoerotically firing their gundam's massive laser at the end of the show.'
I'm definitely getting LWA but mecha vibes from this show, right down to Miorine = Diana, complicated family drama and all; Suletta = Akko (although she's some kind of mecha prodigy? Not explained yet but the vibes are very strong) and side characters with fun designs who may get their own episodes.
The show looks gorgeous, it's beautifully animated, I'm hyped for more. And the opening slaps, another one for the playlists. High hopes!
